Need a Retreat?

Do you need a retreat?

You don’t have to head off to a cabin in the woods (that does sound nice, though!) or rent a private hotel suite for this escape. It’s as close as your back yard.

You won’t need to pack a suitcase, just a light backpack will do. Put in a picnic blanket, your Bible, a favorite devotional or inspirational poetry book, a bottle of water, your journal and pen (oh, and Reese cups add a nice touch!).

You don’t need more than a half hour, although longer is better. Find a comfortable spot in the shade, stretch out, relax, and ask Jesus to spend some time with you. He knows all about peace.

“For He, Himself is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14) and His yoke is easy, His burden light. Listen to the invitation He offers you today:

[box]“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)[/box]

Don’t take your laptop, your cell phone, even your dog. If you have young ones, take picture books for them and explain this is time for quiet, rest, and peace (or you may chose to do this alone during their nap time). If you’re at work reading this right now–block out a time on your daily planner, and then keep this appointment!

Dig into the word, and if you aren’t sure where to start, I’m providing several passages below to read and pray through. You can click on the links and it will take you to the reference:

Psalm 4

Psalm 34

Psalm 46

Psalm 116

Isaiah 25:1–9

Isaiah 26:1–8

Isaiah 40:11–14, 28–31

Isaiah 41:10, 13

Hebrews 4

John 17

Let me know how it goes!

Thank you for your advice, I plan on doing that today! It is so hard to sit still and be quiet enough to hear God speak to us. I want to be still.

Good, Jamie! I pray you have a refreshing retreat in the Word! Nothing else is as fulfilling as sitiing at His feet, soaking up the Word of Life! (Luke 10:42)
