Not Giving Up!

I felt it hot and heavy breathing down my neck—the enemy’s lie:

What’s it matter? Give up. This is too hard.

I remember the exact spot where I was standing when his foul breath blew that lie across my face, the sound vibrating in accusing waves through my brain.

It’s always about worship, you know. No matter what form the temptation takes, it’s always about worship. The enemy seeks to devour our joy in God, tempts us to turn our hearts from Him; tries to convince us that God’s unworthy of our worship.

Will I trust God and worship or will I default to doubt?

Who will I follow?

Who will I bow down to?

Will I believe the enemy’s lies and turn on God?

Will I give way to doubt, allow despair to gobble up faith?

Will I cease to worship the only One worthy to receive worship?

I was standing at the kitchen sink when the battle reached its climax and I grabbed hard onto the edge of the counter, preparing myself for the stand I was about to take.

And I said it out loud.

“I will worship Jesus—no matter what!”

I slung it out of my mouth like a weapon at an unseen foe. For good measure I repeated it a little louder and with greater force the second time.

The enemy had been taunting me with lies for awhile, and he seemed to be winning every battle. He was trying to convince me that God didn’t care, wasn’t working, wasn’t going to come through this time.

The liar was wrong. Again.

As soon as the words left my mouth I knew this battle was over. My stand was secure and I dropped to my knees on the kitchen floor to worship. The fearful circumstances grew worse, but the enemy knew better than to bring the same taunts again—that line of attack had only resulted in a firmer resolution and a heart turned to praise.

Worship is happening 24/7 in God’s realm.

It is the air of heaven—unceasing praise and adoration. One day, we’ll join in with the heavenly host to worship Him there. We’ll worship without threat of attack or an onslaught of lies. There, worship will come naturally and flow freely. But here, within this realm, it is a different story.

The worship lifted here is of a different sort.

Only here will we worship while in battle.

Only here will we have opportunity to lift up the pure worship given while under assault.

Only here can worship serve to humiliate the enemy of our King. Because once we cross into eternity, there will be no more battle with this enemy; he’ll be defeated.

I don’t want to miss out on offering this sacred worship that comes while under fire. Will you join me? Let’s worship while in battle.

Let’s turn the enemy’s lies on his head and worship God for the Sovereign King He is—no matter what the enemy says or brings against us.

Let’s take our stand to worship God alone.

[box]Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore . . . (Ephesians 6:10–14)[/box]

As I was reading this, I knew exactly how you were feeling! I have been going through a similar situation. Day after day the enemy of my soul whispering that He is not listening to you, He doesn’t care, He is too busy. As my heart grew more fearful. What if He doesn’t care, what if He won’t come through this time. Oh my, thank you for a wonderful reminder. Though He may slay me yet will I trust in Him!

    Hello Donna ~

The Father is so faithful to provide just what we need, when we need it! Thank you for sharing. No matter what lies the enemy may throw your way, your Savior sees, He knows, and He cares about all you are facing. I hope you’ll take 1 Peter 5:10 as a promise you can stand on right now!

Pausing to pray for you, now ~

    Hello, Jody!

Good to hear from you, friend! I hope all is well with you. Thanks for stopping in to leave a comment. So cool to know we are joining together in worship, while hundreds of miles apart!

I absolutely loved this and needed this today. I am in the battle of my life with a “hopeless” crisis in my marriage. Even a good outcome will come with so many challenges, that its hard to see God working. I know one good thing coming from this is that my dependence on God has grown so much, my faith stretched. “My stand was secure and I dropped to my knees on the kitchen floor to worship. The fearful circumstances grew worse, but the enemy knew better than to bring the same taunts again—that line of attack had only resulted in a firmer resolution and a heart turned to praise.” – I feel like this is me, my situation is going to get worse, but my stand is secure. Thank you for this! I’m joining you!

    Hello Jean ~

I am so sorry that you are facing what seems to be a “hopeless” crisis. I’m pausing now to ask the Father to give you tangible evidence of His power at work in your situation. I hope you are plugged into a healthy church body and have a network of solid truth-speakers in your life as you navigate the challenges of this season.

I’m so glad you are determined to take a stand against the enemies lies, and lift up worship to God–no matter what!

May you see God do more than you can think or imagine ~

I am plugged in at my church. They are a huge support and I have two women specifically walking beside me and speaking truth to me and praying with and for me. It is really them helping carry this burden.
I love that you mentioned about seeing God do more than you can think or imagine. That verse is the theme for a series our church is doing now and before that, it was something I had been praying about my situation. I am expectant to see what God does. Thank you for taking the time to pray for me.

Yes! I will join you! This is something I long to understand more fully and grow more consistent in – “God inhabits the praises of His people” and “Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have extablished strength (ESV) PRAISE (NIV) because of your enemies to still the enemy and the avenger!!!” Holy Spirit, help us to grow up in purposefully offering a “sacrifice of praise” when we least feel like it! Thank you, Kim!
