A (kinda mushy) Love Letter

I know you’re not a fan of mushy stuff, so I’ll try to tone this down a bit, but I can’t let the day pass without including you in this corner of my world.

My Dear Husband ~

Thank you for choosing me.

Thank you for looking beyond all my rough edges, my silly dramatics, my youthful brashness, and my overpowering fierceness. Thank you for recognizing my love for Christ that was often obliterated by my immaturity and selfishness. Thank you that you saw beyond the ugliness and you chose me for your bride.

Thank you for being patient with my impatience.

Thank you for being slow to anger. Thank you for being a steadying factor when I can be a reactionary. Thank you for choosing to stay when it would’ve been easier to walk away.

Thank you for being my biggest encourager.

Your confidence in me blows me away. And pushes me outside my comfort zone, which is a good (but painful) thing. Thank you for believing in me and cheering me on through every endeavor. Thank you for being one of my most faithful blog readers!

Thank you for releasing things that could easily be held against me.

Your graciousness serves as an instructional model for me. You literally walk in a mode of forgiveness. You don’t hang on to my mess ups, but quickly let it go.

Thank you for modeling servanthood.

I should’ve known. When you started off our honeymoon night by washing my feet, that was just the first of many demonstrations of self-sacrifice. Thank you that you’ve taught me the definition of kindness through receiving it from you and by watching you share it with others. Thank you that you’ve never viewed your position of spiritual leader as a power trip, but you humbly approach your responsibility with love and concern.

Thank you for being my best friend.

I don’t understand why, but you like spending time with me. You make me laugh. You understand me. You listen. You don’t mind when I have a different opinion than yours. You care about what matters to me. Thank you that time spent with you is always an exciting adventure!

Thank you for faithfulness.

Thank you for being faithful to me daily. Thank you for the big (and small) acts of commitment. Thank you for praying over me every single day and night. No matter where I am, no matter where you are, you never miss a night praying for me. Thank you that you’ve proven you are “for me.”

Thank you for wanting to spend the rest of your life with me.

In a lot of ways we’re very different, but you seem to love how God made me, and that is a huge comfort. Thank you for valuing me for who I am instead of trying to change me. Even though my body and face are rapidly deteriorating with age, you still act like I’m the most beautiful woman you know. Thank you that our covenant of marriage, entered into so long ago, means more to me with each passing day because of the richness of your love.

Thank you for loving me.

Pausing now to pray for God’s continued work in your marriage ~

Reading that love letter to your husband blessed me too. It comes from a truly thankful heart. Thanks for sharing it and for recently coming to Lebanon Valley, PA. The Lord used your testimony of God’s faithfulness in ways in which we had not even thought of, and the lives of so many were blessed and challenged in the Word to be faithful to God.
    Thank you, thank you.

As a male reader of your blog, I would like to stand beside you in your gratefulness for the husband and faithful follower of Christ Leroy has chosen to be. To see such a wonderful report of thanksgiving and honor is truly inspirational. Young married believers need more mentors like Leroy who is obviously striving to mirror the life of Christ in his marriage. I am thankful for the two of you, thankful for your ministry and thankful for your testimony. You and he are a beautiful picture of Christ’s redemption and grace on display for all of the world to see. Kim, thank you so much for sharing such an inspiration post about the incredible man your husband is. Know that my family and I love both of you dearly! May you both be blessed as your work continues in ministry.

    What a Savior!
