The Gum and Grocery-Cart-Leavers

My husband says there are two kinds of people in the world: People who leave their grocery carts on the parking lot and those who put them in a cart receptacle.

Believers should never be found in the gum-and-grocery-cart-leavers category, but they are. It’s the same category where you’ll find the “good Christians” who eat an expensive meal, pray loudly, but tip sparingly—or worse yet, the only tip they leave is a gospel tract disguised as money. (I’m speaking from experience here, working as a waitress through much of my high-school and college years.)

Today, I’m sharing over at the True Woman Blog about why putting away a grocery cart actually matters. I hope you’ll join our discussion there!

    Dearest Kim,

Thank you for another excellent and timely perspective on the outcome of “JOY” based living…. Jesus first, OTHERS second, Yourself last… We have this word posted throughout our home and refer to it often. I tell the children if you live with JOY…. putting everyone in their proper place and order as you live and serve the Lord you will have true, lasting JOY and will bring it to others. However, when we have ourselves first rather than Jesus and others, we always experience sadness and brokenness and so does everyone around us. It’s amazing that it truly is a simple concept, yet we fail at it too often!!! Lord help us focus properly and keep our eyes fixed on YOU so that we may bear with others in love and view them as you view them!!!

I have to tell you that I was laughing out loud at the title of your entry! When Mark and I first got married and we moved from Tennessee to Ft. Lauderdale, I was appalled by the shopping carts that were strewn all over the parking lot. I had never seen that in my home town of Brentwood, and I literally was on a mission to rescue them from hitting other cars. In fact, there was one time in particular I saw a cart rolling and heading toward the side of a car, and I ran to rescue it before impact!! 14 years later, we’re still on the lookout for rogue carts! 🙂

I will be praying for you in Texas this weekend! I could write for days on the radically life altering impact of the TRUE WOMAN conferences! May the Lord anoint you with fresh oil to clearly convey HIS WORD to the ladies there. May He give them eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts tender to His word. May hard hearts be softened and may those who are spiritually dead be brought to life! May He encamp angles around you as you are traveling. I will also pray for no technical difficulties, too!!! (Remember last TW??? God still used it for His glory!!! LOL!) I also will be praying Psalms 22:22-31 for you too! I’ve been doing a verse by verse study of it this month. It’s been POWERFUL!

“22 I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! 24 For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him. 25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will perform before those who fear him. 26 The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the LORD! May your hearts live forever! 27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. 28 For kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations. 29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, even the one who could not keep himself alive. 30 Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; 31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it.”

I’m so thankful for you Kim!!! OXOXOX

    Love,

I can just see you chasing down those carts, Leanne! 🙂

JOY . . . what a beautiful way to pass on this truth to your little ones. I love hearing how you’re preparing them to serve others. May you see much fruit from your years of faithful spiritual investment in their lives!

    Love and prayers, friend ~
