Have you ever been falsely accused? Slandered? Exposed to public humiliation? We’ve all experienced the embarrassment that comes from being misunderstood. Most of us can relate to the pain of verbal insult. But imagine being totally innocent of serious accusation, but suspected of a crime punishable by stoning (Deuteronomy 22:23–24), all because you’ve obeyed God. That was Mary’s situation.
The thought of God “dwelling with” people was a pretty amazing concept, not only for the Israelites, but for all mankind. “God living with people” . . . think about it . . . Divinity in close quarters with humanity. God with man—Immanuel. What an amazing thought!
This year, when you open your mail to find a Christmas card with a lovely manger scene, remember that although the setting appears peaceful, this night brought a warrior Child, the One who would conquer death, hell, and the grave. Make no mistake, this birth brought with it a fatal death blow to the enemy of our souls.
